The Board Chairman,Mr. John Hogan pointed out how important such events were to the life of the school and how they help to build the confidence of young people. He thanked all the teachers who were giving so generously of their time to prepare the students and the set for this event.
High School Musical is to be staged by the Transition Year Students from 2nd to the 4th December 2009. 48 students will take to the stage to perform what has been described by critics as the new ‘Grease’.
With a plot sometimes described as modern version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘High School Musical’ is a story about two High School juniors from rival cliques, the Jocks and the Brainiacs. Sport, drama and high school romance are all woven together and laced with dance and song in this hit teen musical.
Troy Bolton, Captain of the Basketball team and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in Maths and Science, completely split the student body of the High School down the middle. Despite other students’ attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to ‘stick to the status quo’.
In the past, Transition Year students in Coláiste Phobal have always been involved in various concerts that have taken place in the Coláiste. For example, last year’s Transition Year class performed an abbreviated version of the well known musical ‘Oliver’. Management believe that getting involved in these productions will enhance the students into the future and more importantly to help build students’ confidence and self esteem.
‘High School Musical’ will be the first full musical to be staged in the Coláiste. Auditions for the musical took place in September and at present, rehearsals are in full swing. The show will be a musical feast for all ages with well known Disney songs such as ‘We’re all in This Together’ and ‘Breaking Free’. An enjoyable evening for all is guaranteed.
