This year, indeed this very time (March 1986), sees the 25th anniversary of the untimely death of Pat Carroll of Coolderry. All Star Pat was a past pupil of Coolderry School where he won his first medal at U12 level – a medal that always held pride of place with him.
To honour his memory, Coolderry Central School and its Board of Management, Coolderry Parish and Hurling Club, and former Principal, George Cunningham, have initiated a fund to put in place in the school a library named in his honour; The Pat Carroll Memorial Library.
Past pupils, colleagues and other friends who wish to be associated with the memorial are asked to sponsor a book (minimum donation ten euro) for the project. All donations will be acknowledged in a special book which will be housed in the school.
A special evening is planned to open the library when the funds have been collected and the books sourced. During this evening George Cunningham will present an illustrated show on Pat’s life and short but significant hurling career. The organising committee would welcome any photographs, memorabilia, newspaper cuttings, programmes and associated material which feature Pat for the presentation. These will be copied and returned. If sufficient material is collected a publication will be considered.
The committee would also welcome any help from other clubs/associations in the parish, district, county, or indeed nationwide. Donations or relevant material may be sent to Coolderry School or to any of the undersigned as soon as possible but before Easter Sunday, 2011.
