Situated close to Inane House, Tommy has spent the winter preparing his land for the project. At the moment he is preparing a proposal for North Tipperary Leader and is confident that the first phase of his development will result in the allotments been used in the near future.
On Friday last, the President of Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce, it’s Secretary Brian king and the Chairman of Roscrea Credit Union, Patsy Treacy were given a tour of the allotment area by Tommy Madden. Accompanying them was P.J Wright of the Assumption Park Residents Association an accomplished gardener himself who was very impressed with the plans.
Chamber President, John Guifloyle, wished Tommy Madden every success. He said that local enterprises should be encouraged and he said that Tommy deserved great praise for taking this initiative. Chamber Secretary, Brian King said that over the past few years himself and John Guilfoyle through their involvement in the North Tipperary Leader Evaluation Committee had witnessed towns such as Nenagh and Thurles benefit from allotment projects. He said that the Chamber had hoped someone from the local area would seize the initiative to do something similar in Roscrea and the Chamber was delighted to see Tommy Madden take that opportunity. Chairman of Roscrea Credit Union, Patsy Treacy said that the Credit Union had organised seminars in the past on energy awareness, healthy eating and lifestyle changes. He said that when Tommy gets the project of the ground the Credit Union would be on board to help organsie a seminar about the benefits of keeping an allotment and the tips and tricks to keeping a good vegetable garden.
Tommy Madden said he was heartened by the great support he had received to date for his project. He said that apart from the practical benefits of helping to make people self-sufficient it has also been suggested by leading psychologists that keeping an allotment helps to reduce stress levels which is most important, particularly in the current economic climate.
If you would like to know more or if you are interested in taking an allotment for a year, please contact Tommy on 0879902999. The allotments are located in the scenic surrounds of Inane about five minutes drive from Roscrea. Some allotments are almost ready to go as all the land is ploughed and rotated and just waiting for a platter of green fingers to get working on it.
