A large number of children of all ages and nationalities gathered in the Library in Roscrea recently for the Annual Prize giving Ceremony. Their proud parents and family members and their teachers accompanied the children.
The theme this year – “MY GREEN SCHOOL” was chosen since all Primary Schools in Roscrea and surrounding areas now proudly display their Green Flags, and many have obtained their second, third and fourth Flag. In fact, St. Anne’s Special School are now in the process of being granted their fifth Green Flag, and is the first Special School in the Country to do so.
The Library walls were covered with all the Posters, and what a spectacle! Every square inch of space on the walls, doors and patricians were utilized. Several hundred posters were on display, and no two were alike.
Class 2, St. Anne’s and Aoibhneas Class in Dromakeenan presented two outstanding Posters this year, and they were awarded 1st and 2nd prizes in the Special Category. The School got the award, and each child was presented with a medal. Class 2 St.. Anne’s also won the John Lupton Shield.
The Bernie Colclough Shield was won by Deimante Karpaviciute of Sacred Heart Primary School , unbelievably one of the youngest entrants, as she is the Under 6 Category. Deimante wasn’t present on the night, so the Shield was presented to two of her classmates.
Tidy Towns Chairman presented the prizes. He congratulated the winners, their parents and teachers, and well done to all those who had contributed their posters. The pupils, Teachers and Principals are rightly proud of all the Green Flags they have obtained, and he congratulated them on their achievements. Tidy Towns Committee have noted the great pride all the schools take in their own premises and school grounds, and we highlight this in the Application Form for the Annual Tidy Towns Competition every year.
Chairman Denis Ryan thanked Rose Crofton and Mary Conroy and Tidy Town members who helped who any way to organise this competition. He thanked Aine and Donal in the Library for facilitating us this year and every year, and allowing us to display the Posters. Special thanks to our own esteemed artist Mary Dillon who had the mammoth task of judging again this year. Unfortunately, she could not attend to night, and she has sent her apologies.
Light snacks were available to all the children courtesy of SuperValu. The Posters will remain on display for a few weeks, and will then be returned to the Schools.
