The Christian Brothers established Roscrea CBS in 1961, and for the next
38 years provided secondary education to boys of Roscrea and surrounding
parishes. In 1999 it amalgamated with Sacred Heart Convent and Roscrea
Vocational School to form Colaiste Phobal Ros Cre.

Last September the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the school
was commemorated, and “Lest We Forget “ A Roscrea CBS Anthology
Edited by Liam Doran, was published. The 50th Anniversary committee
decided that part of the money from the book would be used to erect a
commemorative plaque at St Cronan’s Church, and at the school itself,
subject to consent being obtained for them.
On Friday afternoon the plaque at the church, near the Sacred Heart Convent
school memorial, was blessed by Very Rev.Tom Corbett P.P assisted by
Mr.Adrian Hewson, Diocesan Lay Reader and past student of CBS.
Catherine Timmons (Dean Maxwell, Roscrea) wasdelighted to accept a donation on behalf of the Dean Maxwell from the RoscreaCBS 50th anniversary organising committee. The money was raisedduring the 2011 celebrations.

As part of last year’s Roscrea CBS 50thanniversary celebrations money was raised for a number of good causes. OnFriday last a presentation was made to the Uganda mission fund. TadhgMaher accepted the donation on behalf of his aunt St Mona Maher who wasdelighted with the continued generosity that she receives from Roscrea.

Renovation Fund, To Tadhg Maher for Sr Mona Maher school project in
Uganda and to Bro. Madigan for the Edmund Rise International Heritage
Centre in Waterford.
The plaque at school will be erected in the autumn.
