A great range of visitors interested in organic farming and food visited Moneygall last Saturday. The occasion was Sean O Farrell's farm walk, which was followed by a presentation and food in the Obama Cafe.
The walk, which started at 3PM, discussed flora and fauna in all its forms: the millions of microbes beneath the ground which help with soil structure, and which help develop an abundance of above ground biodiversity. This includes a range of plants in the grass sward, and all manner of insects, which in turn generate a greater population of birds.
An Organic Farm Walk took place in Moneygall on Saturday last. The event was a great success and pictured are many of those that participated including the organsier Sean O’Farrell.
Sean O Farrell was a great source of information on all of these matters, and on how the farming system helped to foster this abundance of nature.

Following the walk, the group went for some fantastic organic food, sourced specially for the event. The food was served in Paul Costelloe's Obama Cafe, Moneygall, and featured some of the region's finest organic producers. Suppliers included Coolfin organic bakery (Banagher Offaly); Michael Seymour's of Sheep walk farm (Borrisokane Tipperary); Ralph and Jonathan Haslam's Mossfield farm and organic store (Birr Offaly); and Tony Garraty's Lough Boora Organic Farm (Cloughan Offaly).

Dr. Oliver Moore (UCC Centre for Co-operative Studies; Irish Examiner) gave an informative and impassioned presentation on the current state of and case for organic farming and food. Oliver Moore was ending an especially busy week for himself, having spoken at the Teagasc Organic conference in Tullamore the previous Tuesday, been chair of the orgnisation. All in all its was a great afternoon and many thanks to all who attended and supported the event.
