The recent timber and fuel auction in the Rugby Club was very successful and it yielded much needed funds for the club, but this success didn’t just happen. A dedicated team led by Mervyn Stanley, Joe Smith, Keith Wallace, put in colossal amount of work, cutting, chopping, carrying lifting, loading and delivering. It was a big team effort and it was literally the rugby team who did most of the heavy work. Karen Smith deserves tons of praise for providing tea and sandwiches for the hungry workforce. The team coaches were also involved with John Lillis, Alan Tynan, and Robert Alexander doing their share. The committee are very grateful to Auctioneer, Charlie Wallace of Templemore who was so professional on the day. Incredibly all the lots that were sold on the Saturday were delivered that evening.

Because of the huge success of the auction and because of the time of year the organising committee requested the Rugby Club to give some of the proceedings to charity and they nominated Pieta House. A presentation was organised by the club and Chairman of the local pieta House Committee, Paul McNamara thanked the club for their generosity saying that the money would be put to good use. Well done to all involved.
