Roscrea St Vincent de Paul are opening a quality clothes and bric-a-brac shop in the town’s Church Street where quality goods will be sold at attractive prices
Roscrea’s St. Cronan’s Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul under the presidency of Ms, Patricia Gleeson are looking to the future with a community reliant strategy by which the community itself collectively will, through the SVP, continue to look after and take care of the growing needs from within itself. In order to generate a continuous required income stream the Roscrea Conference are opening a quality clothes and bric-a-brac shop in the town’s Church Street where quality goods will be sold at attractive prices and with all the income from same being distributed throughout the year by the local Conference to the less well off in the local community. Thus in supporting the SVP shop, the community will be helping its own members who find themselves most in need, while facilitated by the volunteers of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
The Society of the St. Vincent de Paul was founded in Paris some 180 years ago by a young law student named Frederic Ozanam who wanted not only to provide help for those in need but to tackle the underlying reasons for poverty. Today the Society through its conferences, including Roscrea, assist not only with immediate need but seek to do everything possible to lift people out of the poverty trap through facilitating people to become independent and self empowered. Thus supporting people in educational pursuit is a large priority of the SVDP Society.
