32 nervous people entered Breretons Pub on Saturday the 28th of February wondering whether they would be able to handle the pressure of their first dance performance as part of the launch of the Coolderry GAA Club Strictly “ Cool “ Dancing event. “What do you do after the first twist?”…..”I’m standing behind you !” and “ Don’t take any pictures of me !” were some of the comments as the dancers waited to be called into action. There need not have been any panic because when the music boomed from the sound system the newly trained dancers completed their dance steps perfectly in front of the huge cheering crowd.

The Strictly “ Cool “ Dancing fund raiser is being organised by the Coolderry GAA Club and involves 16 pairs of dancers working towards a major performance on the 18th of April in the County Arms Hotel in Birr. From now until the big night the dancers will learn a dance each under the guidance of a professional chorographer. As well as that the dancing partners have to raise funds and sell tickets for the event with most people have put together an army of helpers to drum up support for the event.

Speaking at the launch Martin Ryan, Chairperson of Coolderry GAA Club, noted “This event is all about the community. The funds used will be invested in community facilities and the people involved are from within and outside the GAA club, but best of all it is great fun. The encouragement, laughter and fun the dancers have had so far has been great and we are only a few weeks into the event. The mix of young and not-so-young who are involved makes for a great mix. I would urge anyone who is interesting in supporting the event to contact the club or one of the dancers. It promises to be a great night on the 18th!”
