National Heritage Week (21st-28th) August is co-coordinated by the Heritage Council and its aim is to build awareness and education regarding our heritage.
To coincide with National Heritage week, Roscrea Heritage Society have organised the following events:
Know your monument walking tour
Mon 22nd-Tues 23rd August @2-3pm
Meeting point in the castle yard from 1.45pm A guided walking tour of historic sites in our town centre such as the round tower and Romanesque doorway. This is a free family friendly event. There will be a short question sheet at the end of the tour, so be sure to listen carefully to the guide,to answer the questions and receive your goody bag. Thurs 25th 8-9pm, Fri 26/27th 12-8pm, Sun 28th 2-7pm
Venue: St Cronan's Church of Ireland, Roscrea.
An exhibition of memorabilia with up to 50 exhibits, all floral displays, depicting the human side of the Great War and the 1916 Easter Rising; commemorating this year of Centenaries. Events where both sides of this complex era of our history will be commemorated side by side. There will also be daily organ recitals and light refreshments will be served. Admission by voluntary donation.
Country Market Bake Sale
Fri 26th 10-2pm
Venue: King John's Castle Courtyard
Members of Roscrea Country Market, who have been trading in our town for over 50 years, welcome you to come enjoy a cuppa and a cake in the Castle yard. On sale will be home baked goods and preserves to name a few. Enjoy a wander around the beautiful castle garden while you are here.

Venue: King John's Castle, Roscrea
Step into our Castle and step back in time to meet some of Roscrea's heroic men and women. Characters such as John (Jack) Moyney, Sgt Martin ( Marty) Maher and Daisy Bates will be delighted to tell their stories.

Traditional music offered to you by Comhaltas on the lawn, in front of Roscrea Castle. Free event.
The significance of Sean Ross to the history of Roscrea.
Sunday 28th 2-4.30pm
Explore the significance of Sean Ross. Abbey to the history of Roscrea town. Look at the ongoing restoration. Guest speakers, guided walks, music, family picnic and a Clan event. Free event.
Fancroft: 200 years of milling
Saturday 27th 2-6pm
Venue: Fancroft Mill & Gardens, Fancroft Historical exploration of Fancroft Mill Guided tour and milling demonstration( dependant on adequate water level). Booking essential. Spaces strictly limited. Gates open at 2pm for registration and access to extensive Fancroft Gardens. Milling event commences at 4pm. Complimentary light refreshments served. Gate closes at 6pm.

Roscrea Heritage Society have recently purchased a replica of 'The Roscrea Brooch' which will be showcased during Heritage week in the upper floor of the RHS Tower, Castle yard from wed 24th-sun 28th August
During Heritage week we will also have a send us your selfie competition open to everyone attending any of our events. Simply take a selfie at any one of our events and upload your picture to our Facebook page or email. The prize will be a Family OPW Heritage Card, which allows access to all OPW sites in Ireland and is valid for one year from first date of use.Entries must be submitted by Monday 29th August by 2pm and the winner will be announced on Wednesday 31st August.
