ROSCREA TIDY TOWNS PROGRESS:

NATIONAL ROSCREA TIDY TOWNS

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN MAKING THE “1% DIFFERENCE” ??

Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee are looking for all active citizens in our Community who are interested in making the “1% Difference” and giving an hour or two of their time each week to enhancing our town and its environs.  One of the most important ways of doing this is that all citizens would take home their litter, rather than dropping it carelessly on our approach roads and streets.  If you are not already aware, Roscrea has the lowest mark in the County Tipperary under “Litter Control” in the Tidy Towns competition with Nenagh and Thurles ten/seven marks ahead of Roscrea.  Much more needs to be done to improve this mark, so please help us make that “1% Difference” and clean and tidy our streets, footpaths, approach roads, plus estates and Residential areas.  You will then be making that much needed difference to the overall appearance of your town.

The Committee and Volunteers meet every Saturday morning in Rosemary Square at 10 am. while weather permits so please join them for an hour or two, and help them with the enormous work load they now have to reach higher standards in the Tidy Towns competition.  There is now only six months left before judging commences in the competition again, and save us the embarrassment of a “necklace of litter” along the approach roads into town in next year’s Tidy Town’s report.  This year’s report was very critical of the litter from the approach road to Kennedy Park and into town, and especially on the Carrick Hill road approaching the Hillside Estate, so please get active in all areas of the town, and its approach roads and do necessary litter picks all through the year, so that people become focussed and see the need for “Litter Brigades” in all areas of the town.  If any of this litter is as a result of a local business, we ask all Business owners, managers and staff to be responsible, and keep a check on litter outside and near their premises at least two to three times a day, to avoid this criticism again, and the Committee loosing marks as a result.

Roscrea is now up to “Bronze Medal”  Standard in the competition and will lose this status if we cannot keep up this standard.  If Roscrea could reach a similar mark to Nenagh under “Litter Control” it would have “Silver Medal” status, and would then be reaching the same standard as the best around the Country.

To improve Roscrea’s mark under the “Roads, Streets and Back Areas”, the Committee are hoping to commence necessary work on the roundabouts around the town in coming months as weather permits, and would welcome contributions towards the cost of same from all Businesses, individuals, Fundraising groups etc. who are in a position to contribute large/small amounts as it is estimated each roundabout would cost up to €5,000 to upgrade and finish off,  so work is done to a high standard with little maintenance into the future.  If  you would like to sponsor a roundabout the Committee would very much welcome this opportunity to give you necessary advertising with regard to same. Contributions/Cheques can be made out to Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee and given to Denis Ryan, Rose Crofton, Patricia Gleeson, Eileen Doherty, Mary Conroy, Mary Heffernan, or other members of the Committee.

If you are living alone, retired, an active citizen or someone who would like to give of your time to your town, and want to keep fit, Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee would be delighted to have you out and about with them every Saturday morning.  There is no need to feel shy, all you need do is arrive in Rosemary Square on a nice Saturday morning before 10 a.m. and you will see a group assembled around the Fountain, ready and waiting.  Be the one to make the 1% Difference.
