The AGM of Roscrea Musical Society took place recently in Grants Hotel at 8pm. The atmosphere was high following the huge success of this year’s production ‘Crazy for you’.
The meeting started with a welcome by Chairman Colin Williams, who thanked the secretary and treasurers for their great work during the past year. The support of our very generous patrons and sponsors of the show each year is much appreciated and a very big thank you was extended to them all.
Kathleen Carroll was this year’s deserving recipient of the Roscrea Musical Society 2008 “Unsung Hero Award”. Kathleen is pictured here receiving her award from outgoing Chairman Colin Williams

The election of officers then took place and the following were elected for the coming year: Chairman: Mark McLoughlin, Vice Chair: Niamh O Donnell, Secretary: Siobhan Bowe, Assistant Secretary: Margaret Lyons, Treasurers: Geraldine Carroll & Seamus Mulanney, PRO: Tadhg Maher, Committee: Colin Williams, Ian Hanrahan, Betty Conlon, Mary Pyne, Eileen Maloney, Margaret Comerford, Trish Delaney, Eilish Dooley & Margaret Maloney. The meeting was very positive and we are delighted that Alan Kinsella has agreed to commit himself as producer to the society for the next 2 years.
This will take us right up to our 70th annual production in 2010. A very favourable report was received from AIMS last week indicating that the adjudicator thoroughly enjoyed ‘Crazy for you’ from start to finish. Our Musical Director Vincent Lynch received an AIMS nomination. All in Roscrea Musical Society wish him well and hope he finds time to return to us next year.
A highlight of the AGM was the announcement of the annual Unsung Hero Award. This went to the very deserving Kathleen Carroll who has given so much of her time over the years serving the much needed refreshments to both cast and crew during the week of the shows. This work doesn’t go unnoticed and Kathleen graciously accepted the award. The Society thanks Kathleen for the wonderful and necessary job of ensuring everyone gets a tea or coffee along with lots of extras! The AGM ended with a word from incoming chairman Mark who expressed his delight to be back again as Chairman and looked forward to working with everyone to ensure another successful show for the coming year of ’09. Welcome refreshments were served at the end of the meeting by the hotel.
Here’s hoping for a great year ahead and another successful production.
