On Wednesday 11th June Roscrea Youth Centre opened its doors for a night of joy, celebration and reflection. The night is an opportunity to showcase the club’s young people and let them know how proud everyone at Roscrea Youth Club is of them. The club was decorated with hundreds of sunflowers which hung from the walls and ceiling. Immediately this changed the atmosphere of the hall and highlighted just how special a night it was.
The Club are indebted to thier friends from Roscrea Folk group for providing the music. Youth club members then made an inspiring choir that uplifted everyone’s hearts. Kaya Quinlan and Ilana Kate Dunne were soloists on ‘‘Footprints in the sand’’ and Leanne Loughnane sang ‘‘The Rose’’. For the first time Darragh Carey Kennedy played the banjo which enriched a new song the choir learned called ‘‘in this life that’s lent to you’’. The choice of music fitted in with the theme of ‘‘Footprints’’ beautifully.
Senior Club Member of the year Maria Phelan and Fr.Lorcan Kenny
The gospel was how Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carries his cross and this was at the heart of our celebration. Maria Phelan and Sean Hogan read reflections from both senior club and committee respectively. Both were honest, real and heartfelt on why people become involved and engaged in the Youth Club.
Fr. Lorcan in his Homily then went on to describe how we can tonight say thank you to the people who did not walk away when we needed them.
Junior Club Member of the year Danielle Daly and Fr. Lorcan Kenny
In the Offertory Darragh played a lovely instrumental piece as painted footprints were brought to the alter. There were black footprints on a white background, white footprints on a black background and finally a set of gold footprints facing each other on a multi-colored background. Nothing is more powerful than an image. Indeed the images captured throughout the night were one of friendship, trust and true loyalty; it shows not only how important the club is to the young people, but how important the young people are to our club. We are very proud of our members and this indeed was another night to remember with great fondness.
