Roscrea Youth Club Visit Ballybunion
The following is brief highlights of Roscrea Youth Club’s recent visit to Ballybunion.
Saturday had finally arrived and as usual we all met up at Roscrea Youth Club at 2pm. We were all so excited. We loaded the bus and off we went.
Later that evening we arrived at Ballylaughran house and unloaded everything, then we all decided what rooms we were going to stay in for the week. The first day was just a chill out day for us to settle in and relax ourselves after the journey.
On Monday morning we were all very tired because we had to be up early as we had to be in Killarney for 12pm and as it was a two hour drive we all had a great laugh. The committee had planned outdoor laser shooting for us, it was absolutely brilliant we all enjoyed it immensely especially Sean who was dressed up like something out of the film ‘‘Die Hard’’. After we got cleaned up we went to see a breathtaking waterfall where we got our photo taken, it was fantastic. We then headed off into the shopping centre in Killarney for a short time and none of us left empty handed.

When we got back there was a gorgeous dinner ready which was cooked by Eileen and we are very grateful to her for feeding us for the week. We then went for our nightly swim and when we were finished we went back to the house for an auction. Everyone had a great night.
On Tuesday we had planned to go to the Blaskets but unfortunately the weather was too bad. We went to the cinema in Tralee, which was equally as much fun. Again we came back to the house had dinner and went for a late night swim. After swimming we all gathered in the big hall for a game of bingo and the crack was mighty.
On Wednesday we all headed into Ballybunion town to the leisure centre where we went swimming and spent an hour in the gym, we had all planned to meet in the ice-cream parlour at 5pm where the committee treated all sixteen of us to an ice-cream. Thanks again. We got our dinner that evening back in the house and then we went on a treasure hunt around the grounds of the house we were staying in. Everyone involved had a great laugh. We went for our swim then and then we had a big court case in the sitting room because Fr. Lorcan knocked down Leanne’s teddy “Coop” with his car. It was great fun and Fr.Lorcan only got six years ‘‘poor coop’’!!
Thursday was a day for the girls SHOPPING!! Off we went to Tralee, it was great and we all bought loads. We headed to the aqua dome after an hour and a half which was great fun, we also went to the cinema. We were all wrecked tired but it didn’t stop us doing karaoke when we got home. We had Paul and Deirdre doing I’m a Barbie Girl and of course Paul was Barbie and Dee was Ken it was hilarious!! We all fell into bed that night totally exhausted after yet another memorable day.
On Friday morning, we headed away, half asleep, on the bus to Dingle. Our plan was to tour the Blasket Islands on a boat for two hours, then get onto the Blasket Islands and on to the Beach. Our plans didn’t go exactly as expected. The see was too rough so we couldn’t go to the beautiful beach, we were all devastated. Not to worry though, we all felt better that evening so we had a little prayer with Fr. Lorcan when we got back to the house. It was routine at that stage because every evening of the week we would all get together and talk, listen to music, and pray, its always one of he best things about Ballybunion.
After that we went swimming for the last time and because we knew it was our last night we certainly made the most of it. We had a disco and a Miss Ballybunion 2008 competition but only the boys could enter. It was very funny as the boys came in their mini skirts, stilettos and make-up and strutted their stuff as if they were on the catwalk. Late that night we all went to bed very devastated about it being our last night there.
We had our last mass on Saturday morning before leaving for home. The mass was a mixture of emotions happy sad and lonely. We cleaned our rooms and loaded the bus up and off we went leaving the house for another year.
Thanks to all the committee for a great experience yet again!!
